Maryland Public Television offers special programming for "Chesapeake Bay Week 2021"

Today, Thursday, April 22, 2021 is Earth Day. In recognition of both the observation of Earth Day and the environmental movement, Maryland Public Television is promoting the welfare of the Chesapeake Bay, by offering unique programming devoted to it.

During "Chesapeake Bay Week 2021" (April 18 - April 24) Maryland's public television is offering new Bay-oriented programming. According to its website this includes:

• Chesapeake Beacons– a breathtaking overview of the Chesapeake Bay’s most treasured lighthouses and navigation landmarks. 
• Creatures of the Chesapeake - Plunge beneath the brackish waters of the nation’s largest estuary and discover a diverse and vibrant ecosystem-- home to more than 3,000 unique, mesmerizing and often, quite charming creatures. 
• The Chesapeake Bay Summit 2021 – Host Frank Sesno is joined by experts, activists and officials on Chesapeake Bay health and cleanup to discuss the approaching federally-mandated 2025 deadline that calls for reduced amounts of nutrients, sediment and other pollutants in the Bay.
• Tidewater– explores the efforts by a wide range of stakeholders, from ordinary citizens to the U.S. Navy, to tackle the challenges posed by climate change in Hampton Roads, Virginia where vulnerability to sea level rise most affects military readiness and our overall national security.
• A Voice for the Rivers – a documentary profiling four riverkeepers that are dedicated scientists, environmental activists, educators, volunteers, and advocates who work daily to protect and restore the rivers of the Eastern Shore.

All the new programming is being highlighted for the week of Earth Day, but according to its website the MPT has the right to broadcast them until the end of the year. Viewers should reach out to their favorite MPT station to find when the Chesapeake programs will appear in their line-up.
