The Linthicum branch of the Anne Arundel County Public Library has been open to limited in-person Story Time to preschoolers and their families for about a couple months now, but the programming isn't back to what it was pre-pandemic. That may change in a few weeks.
Right now the library has been facilitating "Book Your Bubble Family Story Time" every week. The next one is expected April 28. That event is limited to four "bubbles" of four people each, including parents. The participants must stay located in the area of the circle on the floor they're assigned, socially distanced from others attending.
"We're trying to bring back indoor Story Time, but being safe" said Library Associate Mary Dushel.
The branch once provided three Story Time events each week. But with the need to prevent the spread of COVID-19 that abruptly changed. Now, the program is almost poised to open up again to unlimited participation outdoors, on May 11.
"Story Time in the Park" is planned to take place on the band stage in Linthicum Park.
"Just everybody can come," Dushel said. "Bring your blanket, and enjoy your Story Time. There's a lot of excitement."
Story Time generally includes the reading of two or three books, singing and finger plays. The current bubble-oriented Story Time has been successful thus far.
Dushel marvelled at the growth and development the toddlers and pre-schoolers have gone through since they last met in person before the pandemic.
"We blinked and they've grown up!" she said. "They like being back in the library. We've really missed them and they've missed us."
